"HAPPENINGS AT THE BARN"

$25,000 BOEING GRANT AWARDED TO THE BARN

In February, The Barn was awarded $25,000 by the Boeing Employees Community Fund. This "Challenge Grant", if matched by $35,000 in community support by August 1st, will clear the way for The Barn's final renovations.

Representatives of the Boeing Employees Community Fund toured The Barn facility and interviewed several board members. After assessing the potential impact of the project on the local community and its benefit to young people, their positive impressions led to a generous grant offer.

The grant will be used to complete the entire electrical system of The Barn. Any funds raised beyond our goal will be used to complete the bathrooms and to install safety doors.

This is a unique opportunity. A foundation with an outstanding reputation has seen the value of The Barn Youth Center. They have demonstrated their support by committing the largest single gift The Barn has ever received. We don't want to throw that away. So we are encouraging every one to donate whatever they can to help raise the needed $35,000 by August 1st, 2001.

HEART & SOUL

The heart of The Barn Youth Center has always been kids. In fact our motto is

The whole kid,
The whole time,
with our whole heart.

That's the vision behind the renovation project at The Barn

to make a place where everything builds,
not walls and rooms --
but kids' lives.

The road to creating a comfortable, flexible and inviting space for kids out of a milking parlor and a cow shed has been, admittedly, a long and faith-building one. Many of you have walked with us down that road -- giving, working, participating, believing, praying. Now we have a unique opportunity to push the whole project forward. If we can raise the $35,000 required by August 1st to finish the electrical system, we will not only receive $25,000 from the Boeing CEF, but we will be within sight of finishing the youth center. Only two more major projects remain.

Facility renovations completed this past year......!

  • Fire sprinkler system
  • Dry wall south wing
  • Septic system
  • Install 2 furnace system

Work in progress now

  • Paint south wing
  • Finish electric system
  • Complete bathrooms
  • Insulate main barn
